Our Call to Action

by Jacqueline Sowah, Head of Press

I believe the UNAYP could play an important role in providing a safe and honest space for

young people to voice their beliefs and opinions. The newsletter creates an atmosphere of candour and equality. It has become increasingly important for diverse, marginalised, and silenced voices to be heard in the ever-changing world. I believe a platform such as this youth-led newsletter can encourage conversations between the younger generations enabling them to become future leaders and advocates of innovation.

In order to be a part of an active and progressive change in the world around us, young people must be part of the conversations in order to create a world we are proud of. From

topics ranging from the climate crisis to geopolitics, we aim to learn and grow our knowledge in a way that would benefit all aspects of technology. It has been challenging having to manoeuvre through a global pandemic whilst in full-time education as well as bringing more importance to our mental health. It is for this reason that now more than ever all of us must come together to instil an everlasting change in our current society. Growing up can be an exciting time for all of us however under the immense pressure of solidifying a future as well as other social, economic and political factors we seem to have become isolated from the world as well as each other.

There is a growing demand for the output of future leaders yet a scarcity of the platforms which promote healthy conversations surrounding the very often tumultuous lives most of us live. Our mission is to nurture the concept of self-education as well as personal development. It is difficult to believe that of the almost 4 million young people in the UK, most of us are not taking an active role in the discussions which shape the future we will inevitably be leaders of. We are surrounded by incredible youth role models such as Yara Shahidi, Zendaya, Simone Biles, Greta Thunberg and so many more who are constantly speaking out and striving for a better world. We have the privilege of having access to social media as well as many other mediums in a technological world in which we can grow our outreach and inspire and call to action those with a multitude of beliefs. The time for change has come and it is our collective responsibility to take charge and be the change we so demand in the world in order to see a real difference.

Through the UNAYP and ultimately our newsletters and blogs we want to invite those voices and share our concerns, opinions, perspectives and solutions in order to spark a bigger change. Our mission and responsibility include all voices from different parts of the world. We are lucky enough to have the means and resources so many others around the world cannot afford to or are denied and it would be an injustice not to speak on the millions of unrepresented and silenced voices all around the world.
